Early Literacy nursery murals
If you found this page you are looking for more than a beautiful mural for your nursery. As an Early Literacy Specialist, Clair infuses every nursery she touches with early learning opportunities. Below is a visual gallery of some of her nursery mural work. At the top you’ll discover an example of how Early Literacy Skills are incorporated intentionally into Clair’s recent Woodland Nursery Mural. The couple she painted for envisions the space as a reading corner. Trees are often at the center of Clair’s mural designs. She feels they are a beautiful representation of calm, strength, and growth that help provide Sacred Space for you and your child in these early years. By bringing the fractal patterns of nature inside, Clair creates a calming in the brain similar to what we receive when we go into nature. How a Woodland Mural Is an Early Literacy Tool
There are six Early Literacy Skills that are crucial in your child’s early learning toolbox! Did you know that you are exercising these skills the moment your child hears your voice? Clair is an Early Literacy Specialist AND Muralist and her skills are best expressed when these two passions come together. Contact Clair to begin creating a custom mural for your nursery that gets you talking with your child.
The Woodland Mural to the left can be used to intentionally practice Early Literacy Skills. Below are some examples of how to practice these skills.
Narrative Skills- While looking at the Woodland Mural, make up a story about the animals, is the butterfly flying toward the little red door? Where are the bees going and why does only one have a stinger? You can start by telling the story, and as your child grows, allow them to decide what is happening!
Vocabulary- Talk about the animals you see in the mural, the insects, what are the names for a baby fox or deer? What types of plants do you see?
Clair loves planning murals that encourage young parents to practice these critical Early Literacy Skills. For reference listed below is the Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy website to which discusses the other 4 skills and how to practice these with your child.

Dusty Rose Willow Tree
Here is a quick video showing the detail on this Willow Tree Mural painted in a nursery! This tree is an example of creating calm and bringing the fractal patterns of nature inside your home. As you can see, the trunk and branches have a white base with brown and green details. The flowing branches consist of a mauve, forest green, and there is a light brown that is close to the wall color to give a shadow look providing dimension! Clair discussed color palette in advance with the clients and agreed upon a design. If you have any questions about her process, see the Contact tab above.
